Why do you tutor online?
I made the decision to tutor online because it allows me, and my students, to be able to make better use of our time. Neither of us has to be concerned with bad weather or travel time or even time-zones for that matter. Most importantly, tutoring online also allows me to spend more time with my family.
How long have you been tutoring online?
I have been tutoring math online since 2018.
Do you tutor at your house or do you travel?
In the past my students would come to my house because I have a dry erase maker board that we used for working through exercises but now I work exclusively online.
What subjects do you tutor?
Right now I’m focusing on Algebra at the High School and College level.
How does online tutoring work?
We choose a day and time that works the best for us and meet online using a program called Zoom. I will share my screen with you and use OneNote as an online whiteboard so we can work through problems together. Zoom is a stable video conferencing platform that allows us to see and hear one another just as though we were sitting in the same room. After each session I will email you a pdf file of everything we covered.
What equipment is necessary?
All you really need is a computer with a microphone, speakers or headphones, and optionally a camera. Although optional, a camera will allow us to learn face to face.
How do you write on the screen?
I use a digital graphics tablet to write on the screen. The one I use is an XP-pen Deco 01 graphics tablet.
How will we work on the homework?
You can take a picture, or a screenshot for online textbooks, and send it to me before or during the lesson. I use the Windows Snipping Tool and then copy and paste onto OneNote where we can work on it together.
Have you worked with ADHD, or special education students?
I have not, that I am aware of.
How long will tutoring be necessary?
That depends on a couple of factors. Everyone learns at a different pace. Some students just need help with homework while others are looking to fine tune various skills with more practice. It also depends on the level of commitment. Learning mathematics takes practice but it’s not as intimidating as it may seem at first. Confidence will grow with understanding over time and math will be easy.
How long are your sessions?
One hour. Contact me to discuss other arrangements.
How do I pay for sessions?
Payments will be made through PayPal in advance.
Do you work in the summer?
Yes. I will help you even during the summer.
